Prepaid vs postpaid: which is right for me?
Prepaid has no contract and no credit check: you pay before each period and can change plans anytime. Postpaid bills you monthly and lets you add a new phone with 0% financing on approved credit. If you already have a phone you like, prepaid usually costs less.
Which carriers are your postpaid plans with?
Available with select Canadian carriers. We'll go over options on your call.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
For prepaid, yes: your phone must be unlocked and compatible. Every SmartSource refurbished phone is unlocked. For postpaid, we'll check your phone on the call.
How long does a number transfer take?
Usually within a few hours of activation, sometimes up to a business day. Keep your current service active until the transfer is done.
Is there a credit check?
No credit check on prepaid. Device financing on postpaid is on approved credit.
How does 0% device financing work?
You pay the device cost in equal monthly payments over 24 months with no interest, on approved credit. Taxes are due upfront. The monthly payment is added to your plan bill.
Can I use eSIM?
Yes, if your phone supports eSIM. Choose eSIM in your request and we'll send you activation steps.
How do I get my SIM or phone?
We ship your SIM or phone to you, or you can activate by eSIM. Either way, there's nowhere you need to go.
Is prepaid available in Quebec?
Not at this time. Prepaid plans are not available in Quebec.
How does the SmartSource phone discount work?
When you activate an eligible prepaid plan and buy a refurbished SmartSource phone, you get $25 off the phone. Mention it in your activation request and we'll apply it.
