iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Max: Which Size Is Right?
Same chip, same cameras, two sizes. The Pro Max adds 9 hours of video playback. Here is which one to get.

Same phone, two sizes. Most people should get the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro: it fits one hand and a jeans pocket. Get the 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max if you want the bigger screen and the bigger battery that comes with it.
The only real difference: size

Round by round
211 g against 249 g, and 6 mm narrower. That weight gap is about six loonies. The Pro is easy to reach across with one thumb. The Max is a two-hand phone for most people.
Apple rates a typical day at up to 30 hours on the Max and 24 on the Pro. Video playback goes 45 hours against 36. Those 9 extra hours are about a Toronto to Vancouver flight, there and back.
6.9 inches against 6.3. You'll feel it in Netflix, maps and long articles. Brightness (3000 nits) and 120Hz are the same.
Same three 48MP cameras, same 4x zoom, same 18MP selfie camera. Your photos will look identical, so don't pick the Max for the camera.
Same A20 Pro chip and same charging: 50% in about 15 minutes with a 60W adapter.
Notice the pattern: every win for the Max comes from being bigger, and every win for the Pro comes from being smaller. So pick your size, not your phone.
Skip it if
Skip the iPhone 18 Pro if
- You finish most days under 20% battery
- Your phone is mainly a TV, a game console or an e-reader
- You want the biggest screen Apple makes
Skip the iPhone 18 Pro Max if
- You carry your phone in a front jeans pocket
- You have smaller hands or text one-handed a lot
- The camera is why you're upgrading (the Pro has the same one)
SOur take
If someone walked in undecided, we'd hand them the 18 Pro. You get every Pro feature that matters, in a size you'll still like a year from now.
The Max is the better phone for one kind of person: the one reaching for a charger by 4 p.m. If that's you, the extra 38 g is worth it, and you'll stop thinking about battery.

Before you buy
How much storage?
256GB is plenty if you mostly take photos and stream. Go 512GB or more if you shoot a lot of 4K or ProRes video, or keep years of photos on the phone. Storage can't be added later.
Good to know
- Both are eSIM only in Canada. No SIM card slot.
- The 15-minute fast charge needs a 60W or stronger USB-C adapter.
- Cases don't swap between the two. Buy one made for your size.
