What happens if your iPhone does not get iOS 27?
- It keeps working. Calls, texts, photos and installed apps still run.
- Apple usually keeps sending security fixes to the previous version for a while, but not forever.
- Apps slowly drop support. Banking, streaming and messaging apps set a minimum iOS version, and new versions stop installing. See which apps stop working on old iPhones.
- Resale value drops faster once a phone loses updates, so it is a good time to sell your old iPhone.
Will my iPhone get iOS 28?
Apple has not said. iOS 26 and iOS 27 both kept the iPhone 11 and SE (2nd gen), which use the A13 chip from 2019, so they are the most likely to be dropped next. If you are buying a used iPhone to keep for several years, an iPhone 13 or newer is the safer choice.
How to check your iOS version and update
- Open Settings, General, About to see your iPhone model and iOS version.
- Go to Settings, General, Software Update.
- Back up first (iCloud or a computer), plug in, connect to Wi-Fi and tap Update Now.
- If iOS 27 does not appear, your iPhone is not supported. It will still show security updates for its last version.
