Which network each carrier uses
Most Canadian carriers don't own towers. They're brands of the big three, running on the same network for less money. Same towers usually means the same coverage, though some cheaper brands cap speed or skip 5G. The badge shows the fastest speed in each carrier's current plans.
Rogers network
Rogers
Fido
Chatr
Rogers owns these towers. Fido and Chatr are Rogers brands that run on the same network.
Bell network
Bell
Virgin Plus
Lucky Mobile
Bell owns these towers. Virgin Plus and Lucky Mobile are Bell brands that run on the same network.
Telus network
Telus
Koodo
Public Mobile
Telus owns these towers. Koodo and Public Mobile are Telus brands that run on the same network.
Vidéotron and Freedom networks
Vidéotron
Freedom Mobile
Fizz
All three belong to Vidéotron. Vidéotron's towers cover Quebec, and Freedom's cover the main cities of Ontario, Alberta and B.C. Fizz uses Vidéotron in Quebec and Freedom elsewhere. Outside their own towers, they roam on partner networks.
SaskTel network
SaskTel
SaskTel runs its own network in Saskatchewan, built under a network-sharing deal with Bell and Telus.
Bell and Telus share much of their tower network across Canada, so coverage on the two is often similar.

How to pick a phone plan in Canada
1. Work out how much data you really use
Check your phone's settings for last month's mobile data. Most people on Wi-Fi at home and work use far less than they pay for. Pick the smallest plan that covers your heaviest month.
2. Know what "unlimited" means
In Canada, unlimited plans give you a set amount of high-speed data, then slow you down for the rest of the month instead of charging overage. Look at the high-speed amount, not the word unlimited.
3. Look past the big three
Rogers, Bell and Telus each run cheaper brands on the same networks: Fido and Chatr on Rogers, Virgin Plus and Lucky Mobile on Bell, Koodo and Public Mobile on Telus. Freedom Mobile and Fizz belong to Vidéotron. You often get the same coverage for less.
4. Bring your own phone
Plans without a phone attached cost less and leave you free to switch. An unlocked phone works with any carrier on this page that supports its network bands.
5. Check the fine print
Many prices need auto-pay or paperless billing. We show the condition under each price, and the price without it when the carrier lists it.
Bring your own phone and save
Every phone we sell is unlocked and IMEI-checked, with a warranty of 90 days to 1 year, depending on grade, and 14-day returns. Take it to any carrier above.
Questions about phone plans
What is the cheapest phone plan in Canada right now?
It changes every week. The "Best prices right now" row at the top of this page always shows the lowest listed price for your province, worked out from the latest carrier prices. Prepaid plans are usually the cheapest way to get data.
Prepaid or postpaid: which is better?
Prepaid means you pay before each period, with no credit check and nothing owed if you stop. Postpaid bills you after each month and often includes extras like Canada-US data. If you bring your own phone, both are no-contract.
Do Fido, Koodo and Virgin use the same network as Rogers, Telus and Bell?
Yes. Fido and Chatr run on the Rogers network, Koodo and Public Mobile on Telus, and Virgin Plus and Lucky Mobile on Bell. Some cheaper brands cap speeds or offer 4G LTE only, which we list on each plan.
What network does Freedom Mobile use?
Freedom Mobile runs its own towers in the main cities of Ontario, Alberta and B.C. Outside those areas, calls and data roam on partner networks. Freedom is owned by Vidéotron, which also owns Fizz.
What network do Fizz and Public Mobile use?
Fizz uses Vidéotron's network in Quebec and Freedom Mobile's network in other provinces, with partner networks where those don't reach. Public Mobile is a Telus brand and runs on the Telus network, the same towers Koodo uses.
What is the cheapest unlimited data plan in Canada?
Canadian "unlimited" plans give you a set amount of high-speed data, then slow you down. Use the Data filter above to set the high-speed amount you need, and the cheapest plan that meets it shows first. Prepaid brands like Fizz, Public Mobile and Lucky Mobile are usually cheapest.
Why are prices different in Quebec, Saskatchewan or out west?
Carriers set prices by region, and regional carriers like Vidéotron, Fizz and SaskTel change the competition where they operate. Pick your province above to see the prices that apply to you.
Are the prices on this page before tax?
Yes. Carriers list prices before tax, so your bill adds GST, HST or PST for your province. Some carriers also add a one-time connection or SIM fee.
How often are these prices updated?
Every week. We read each plan from the carrier's own website and show the date it was last checked at the top of the page. Promotions can change between checks, so confirm the price on the carrier's site before you sign up.
Can I keep my number if I switch?
Yes. In Canada you can move your number to a new carrier. Sign up with the new carrier first and give them your current number. Don't cancel your old plan first, or you can lose the number.
Will my phone work on another carrier?
Phones sold in Canada since December 2017 must be sold unlocked. If yours is older or came from outside Canada, check that it is unlocked and supports the new carrier's network bands. Run an IMEI check before buying any used phone.
Is this comparison free?
Yes. Nothing to sign up for. The "See on" buttons take you to each carrier's own site, where you sign up directly with them.
How we collect prices
We read every plan from the carrier's own public plan pages, for a new customer bringing their own phone. The order of plans is set by your filters and sort, not by any carrier. Last checked October 19, 2026. Spotted a wrong price? Tell us.
