Which iPads get Apple Intelligence?
Only iPads with an M1 chip or newer, plus the iPad mini (A17 Pro). The regular iPad, including the iPad (A16), does not support Apple Intelligence even though it runs iPadOS 27. Full list in which devices support Apple Intelligence.
Which iPad will be supported the longest?
Newer chips get more years. Today, the safest long-term picks are M-series iPads (Air and Pro) and the iPad mini (A17 Pro). The iPad (9th gen), with its A13 chip from 2019, is the oldest iPad on the iPadOS 27 list, so it is the most likely to be dropped next. For a kid's tablet or a reading iPad that matters less.
