watchOS 27 supports the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, 10, 11 and 12, and Ultra 2, 3 and 4. It needs an iPhone 11 or later (or SE 2nd gen or later) running iOS 27. watchOS 27 drops the Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, SE (2nd gen) and the first Ultra, which stay on watchOS 26.

Is a watch without watchOS 27 still worth buying?
It depends on the job. A Series 7, Series 8 or SE (2nd gen) still has fall detection, Emergency SOS, heart rate alerts and workout tracking, and it keeps working on watchOS 26. It will not get new watchOS 27 features, and app developers will drop it sooner. For a fitness tracker or a kid's first watch, that is fine. For a watch you want to keep for years, choose SE 3, Series 9 or newer, or Ultra 2 or newer.
What iPhone do you need?
watchOS 27 needs an iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE (2nd gen or later), running iOS 27. Apple Watch does not work with Android phones. See which iPhones get iOS 27.
How to check and update
- On your iPhone, open the Watch app, General, About to see the model and version.
- Go to General, Software Update in the Watch app.
- Keep the watch on its charger, near the iPhone, with at least 50% battery.
