How selling your device to SmartSource works
Selling a phone, tablet, watch or console to SmartSource takes four steps: get a quote online, ship it with the prepaid label we email you, we inspect it, and you get paid. This guide walks through each step and what you need to do.
1. Get your quote
Go to Sell your device and pick your device, storage and condition. You see your offer right away. Brand pages list every model we buy: iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, iPad and Apple Watch.
To get an accurate offer:
- Pick the condition honestly. Each condition in the quote tool has a short checklist. If your device matches it, your offer stands at inspection.
- Check the battery health. On an iPhone, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and look at Maximum Capacity.
- Mention any damage. Use the damage notes box for cracks, dead pixels or anything that doesn't work.
Your quote is valid for 10 days. Ship your device within that window. After it expires, you need a new quote.
2. Make sure your device can be sold
We can only buy devices that are:
- Paid off. If your phone is still on a financing plan or carrier contract, pay off the balance first.
- Not locked to an account. iCloud Activation Lock, Find My and Google or Samsung account locks must be off.
- Not blacklisted. Lost or stolen devices aren't eligible. You can run our free IMEI check before you send it.
3. Confirm and get your prepaid label
Send your quote with your name and email. We reply by email to confirm your details and your shipping address, then email you a prepaid Canada Post shipping label. You don't pay for shipping.
Prefer not to ship? Choose pick-up in the quote tool and we confirm a time by email.
4. Prepare your device
Before you pack it:
- Back up your photos, contacts and messages.
- Sign out of iCloud and turn off Find My, or remove your Google and Samsung accounts.
- Factory reset the device.
- Take out your SIM card and memory card.
Step-by-step instructions for every device are in how to prepare your device for trade-in.
5. Pack it and ship it
Pack the device in a small, sturdy box with padding so it can't move. Stick the label on the box and drop it off at any Canada Post location. Keep your receipt for tracking.

6. We inspect it
When your device arrives, we check that it matches your quote: model, storage, condition, battery health, and that accounts are removed. If it matches, your offer stands.
If the condition is different, we email you a revised offer before we pay anything. You choose: accept the new offer, or decline it. If you decline, we send your device back free. Details are in inspection and payment.
7. Get paid
We pay within 24 hours to 3 business days of receiving your device. If we send you a revised offer, payment goes out after you accept it.
